Girls, Girls Everywhere

No, I'm not talking about school girls, I'm talking about images of female celebrities. I mean, duh, there are advertisements everywhere, right? And Japan has to be one of the most heavily advertised countries in the world. But what makes it different—and one of the reasons I really like living here—is that all of my favorite Japanese celebrity crushes are everywhere.

Like the photo of Saki Aibu here on a banner for homes. She's also on posters at Mister Donut, and I just saw her on a travel ad at Oita Station today too. She was even on the JAL ticket jacket for my flight from Tokyo to Oita.

It's not just Saki Aibu. It's also Miyazaki Aoi in my mail for Aflac, Aoi Yuu on my Docomo catalog, Yukie Nakama on Au billboards, Aya Ueto for some food at the grocery store... It's heaven, it really is.

The New Cutest Girl In The World

Way back in May I proclaimed Aoi Miyazaki the cutest girl in the world. She's certainly still cute, but since then I've been watching another Aoi's star rise and I think it's finally time to declare a new cutest girl in the world.

I give you: Yuu Aoi. And she can act! Check out Hana and Alice, All About Lily Chou-Chou and, um, Hula Girls for proof.

See? Great acting!

Of course, what could be better than the former and current cutest girls in the world together? Actually, nothing.

The yakihito Top 5 Most Desirable Japanese Women

In response to the story I ran the other day about the five most desirable women in Japan, I've decided to make my own top five. Nothing scientific, nothing earth-shattering, just the top 5 Japanese women that I'd like to marry (hey, it's one of the perks of doing a blog).

Ikimasu:

1st: Aoi Miyazaki 宮崎あおい
I've said before that she's the cutest girl in the world and it's still true. Hachi, I'll marry you any day.

2nd: Chiaki Kuriyama 栗山千明
I never really thought of myself as a masochist but I have to admit that seeing Chiaki stab that guy in the nuts in Battle Royale really got to me. Seeing her with the whip in Yokai Daisenso clinched it. Hey, she can wear the pants, that's cool with me.

3rd: Yukie Nakama 仲間由紀恵
I consider it one of the major crimes of this world that someone with such a beautiful smile should rarely get to show it. Even the Trick series, in which Yuki-chan was able to display her deft comic timing, only occasionally allowed her to smile. I protest!

4th: Misako Ito 伊東美咲
I don't usually go for the super glamorous model types. I tend to prefer kawaii (hence my number one choice). But damn if Misaki Ito isn't pretty!

5th: Saki Aibu 相武紗季
Well, look at that. After all my complaining the other day about Saki-chan coming in fifth in that poll and I go and place her fifth in my own poll. Saki-chan is the most approachable of the women on this list. If you saw all five of them walking down the street, she's the one you'd probably be the least intimidated by, but does that alone relegate her to number five? Truthfully, she's also a recent crush for me. The others have been on the list a lot longer.

Only Fifth?

My girl Saki Aibu has been voted the fifth most desirable Japanese female, according to the Mainichi Daily News. The survey was conducted via the World Wide Interwebs by music information provider Oricon. The most desirable woman is apparently actress Masami Nagasawa. Psssh, whatever.

2nd: Kaori Manabe
3rd: Yuka
4th: Megumi Yasu
5th: Saki Aibu

Not only does Saki Aibu have those adorable dimples, she'll serve you a donut with a smile on her face. Beat that, Masami!
