Violent Death
Back in my rave days in the early '90s, we used to talk about a supposed drug from Japan called Violent Death. Now that I think back about it it sounds like something out of a William Gibson novel, but in those chemically fueled days anything seemed possible.
The drug (or so it was said) caused a specific chemical to be released in your brain, which would simulate what it felt like to die. We didn't know if it was a pleasant experience or a scary one, but then again not all drugs gave you a pleasant experience either. Sometimes just the fact that it was a different experience was enough.
But the chemical it was said to release was some special chemical you had in your brain that was reserved for the moment of death. Perhaps it eased your passing, or enabled you to see your "life flash before your eyes." By taking Violent Death you didn't have to wait until the end, but then at the actual end you'd be screwed.
I just did a Google search for it, and looked on Wikipedia as well, hoping to find a mention of it as an urban legend. No luck though. Anyone ever heard of this?

Having not been in the rave scene (during the time you guys were) and lived in Tokyo when there still was one, I have never heard of this before. Sounds interesting though.
