Super Go!!!
How can you not love the Boredoms? Their epic trance rock cosmicness is perfect music, Neu! kicking up a ruckus in the Kansai backwoods, sun worship and ecstatic sea dreams coming together in the center of your soul. Or something.
I first heard Boredoms back in the early '90s when they had their first US exposure. I can't say I was a fan. Their scatalogical noise blasts were a little too angular for my more linear tastes. But when a friend told me about the All Tomorrow's Parties show he saw, and described Boredoms' trance-u-like stage show, I knew there was something there I had to hear. Vision Creation Newsun quickly became one of my favorite albums.
I got the chance to see them myself a few years ago when they toured for Seadrum/House Of Sun, a stripped down pairing of rolling tribal drumming and sitar drone. The show was incredible, if just for the fact that they were able to keep their minimal set up of drums and sound effects consistently interesting for an hour and a half.
I kick myself that I was never able to see them at their Newsun peak, as in this video for "Super Go!!!." New sun!
